Become a Preceptor. Change the Future!

The WWDI is completed in 8 months for those who already have a graduate degree (30-40 hours per week) or within 2 years for those enrolled in a graduate program (16-25 hours per week). The WWDI has been granted full accreditation status by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and meets the requirements of 1000 hours of supervised practice experience.

 

Why Become a Preceptor? 
You can make a difference in the lives of students with an interest in wellness programs who are learning to become Registered Dietitians. As the demand for dietetic internships has increased, highly qualified students aren't getting positions, not because they don't have good grades or varied work experiences, but simply because too few dietetic internship positions are available. Preceptors are the limiting factor in providing a sufficient number of supervised-practice experiences to meet the demand from qualified dietetics students. The profession needs more practitioners who are willing to train and serve as positive role models, to assure that all qualified students can complete their education and sit for the registration exam. We need you! 
 

How Can You Help to Eliminate the Internship Shortage? 
All practitioners were at one time taught or guided by a volunteer preceptor or skilled practitioner, so each of us has the responsibility to continue in those footsteps by taking an active role in educating the next generation of RDs. If you are already a preceptor, please encourage your students, interns and colleagues to consider becoming preceptors too. If you have never been a preceptor or would like to increase your commitment, please sign up with us. If we find interested students in your area, we will contact you. 

 

Why Become a WWDI Preceptor?

Wellness Workdays Dietetic Internship values our relationships with our preceptors! We make it as easy as possible and try to ensure that your find the experience rewarding. Our Program Advisors will reach out to each preceptor directly and will be their contact for the duration of the intern's rotation. They are there to brainstorm potential projects for the intern and help with any questions or concerns along the way. Given our large class size of 113 interns, preceptors have the ability to take more than one intern each year, and potentially train a future new hire!  

 

Preceptors are given access to an internship management site where they can complete all evaluations without having to download additional paperwork. We provide training and an in-depth manual to help guide preceptors through the internship process.  In addition to our training, ACEND offers a free preceptor training course for 8 CPEUs.

Our Contracts Manager works with preceptors or the appropriate point person to establish the affiliation agreement between Wellness Workdays and the rotation facility.  We are happy to establish new agreements prior to the start of the rotation.
